What Specialist Mentoring and Specialist Study Skills Support is and How it Works
If you have been recommended Specialist Study Skills and/or Specialist Mentoring support with us, and you would like more information, please give us a call or text on 07359314722, and we can have a chat about what the support is and how it works.
Here is some basic information for each role, although our support is tailored to each individual student and their requirements, so it is not an exhaustive list:

What is Specialist Mentoring Support?
Your mentor can help you with planning, organisation and time management. They can support you to develop techniques to reduce anxiety and stress and increase confidence and motivation. They are not therapists, but they provide a supportive and non-judgemental ear, they can provide advice, resources and signpost you to other services if necessary.

What is Specialist Study Skills Support?
Your tutor can help you to hone your academic skills such as research, organisation, note-taking, essay/report writing, revision/memory, proofreading and presentation skills. Study skills tutors are qualified teachers with additional qualifications and experience in supporting autistic students, and/or students with ADHD and Specific Learning Differences such as dyslexia and dyspraxia.

How does it work?
You usually meet your mentor/tutor once a week for an hour (usually during term time only). You will meet with the same person throughout your course. If you elect to have your session online, then you and your mentor/tutor will agree when to meet, and this takes place over your preferred platform – Teams/Google Meet, etc. If you prefer to meet your mentor/tutor in person, you can book a group study room in your uni library, and they will meet you there. Sessions are scheduled through an online system/app so you can clearly see when your upcoming sessions are using the dashboard calendar.
